Dr. Angela Sebby is an Associate Professor of Hospitality and Regional Identity in the Division of Social Sciences at Maryville College, where she joined in 2023. Prior to this, she served as an Associate Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management in the College of Business at Western Carolina University from 2016 to 2023.
Her educational background includes:
- B.S. in Hospitality, Restaurant, and Tourism Management from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville
- MBA with cognates in Marketing and Management from Lincoln Memorial University
- Ph.D. in Retail, Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, with a concentration in Hospitality and Tourism Management
Dr. Sebby's research focuses on travel decisions, destination management organizations (DMOs), social exchanges in tourism, and the impact of local 'Maker' culture in the Appalachian region on destination image and consumer behavior. Her recent work has examined the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel intentions and current research explores how artisanal and craft-based enterprises influence regional tourism identity.
She teaches courses in Introduction to Hospitality, Hospitality Marketing, Principles of Management, Sustainable Tourism, and Hospitality Management and Operations, with a unique emphasis on how food, beverages, and local culture shape regional identity.
