Angela Romano is a Senior Assistant Professor of International History at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Bologna. She holds a PhD in International History and previously served as Lecturer at the University of Glasgow (2020–2022), Senior Research Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI), and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at LSE. Her work focuses on Cold War geopolitics, regional integration processes, and international economic relations. She co-directed the ERC-funded PanEur1970s project (2015–2020) and has published widely in top journals and edited volumes.
Research interests include New Diplomatic History, European socialist regimes' foreign policies, and transnational economic exchanges. Recent scholarship highlights her analysis of 1970s Cold War dynamics and socialist states' engagement with Western Europe. Her 2020 Routledge volume explores Eastern European nations' strategic interactions with the West during the long 1970s.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on 20th-century international relations and European integration history. She maintains active participation in global academic networks, presenting at conferences across Europe, North America, and Asia. Office hours are arranged via email for in-person or virtual meetings.
