Dr. Angela Oates is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University in the School of Health, with extensive clinical and academic expertise in microbiomes, chronic infections, and biofilm research. Her career spans multiple institutions including the University of Manchester, University of Leeds, and Hull York Medical School, where she conducted BBSRC-CASE-funded research on chronic diabetic wound microbiomes and developed novel biofilm models.

Her research focuses on health-associated microbiomes (skin, wound, oral), bacterial biofilms in chronic conditions, antimicrobial tolerance, and microplastics' impact on health. She has secured funding from NBIC and NIHR for clinical trials like CODIFI2 and collaborates with global wound care companies to translate findings into diagnostics and treatment strategies.
Recent work includes computational antibiotic studies, hyaluronan-based drug delivery systems, and biofilm imaging methodologies. She maintains HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist and serves on the editorial board of the British Journal of Biomedical Science, emphasizing her commitment to bridging clinical needs with innovative solutions.
