Dr. Angela Haeny is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, leading the Racial Equity and Addiction Lab (REAL). Her work focuses on eliminating racial disparities in substance use research, particularly among Black adults, by investigating treatments and addressing racial stress and trauma. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri (2018) and an MA (2011) and AB (2010) in Psychology from the University of Minnesota and University of Missouri, respectively.
Her research integrates clinical interventions with equity-focused approaches, emphasizing culturally tailored treatments for alcohol and drug disorders. Key areas include measuring stress responses to racial trauma, developing antiracist therapeutic frameworks, and evaluating policy impacts like menthol tobacco bans. She has been awarded grants from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the National Institute on Drug Abuse, including a 5-year career development award.
Dr. Haeny is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Research Society on Alcoholism and Connecticut Psychological Association, serving on diversity committees.
