Angela Giordani is a Lecturer in Contemporary Civilization at Columbia University. She holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin (2010), an MPhil (2015), and a PhD (2021) from Columbia University. Her research focuses on modern Arab intellectual history, Islamic thought revivalism, and the Arab revolutionary tradition, with expertise in translation studies and global humanities. She previously taught at Smith College and the University of Texas.
Her current research examines the revival of classical Islamic philosophy in the modern Arab world and its role in post-colonial thought regeneration. An emerging project explores concepts of revolution in contemporary Arab thought through 20th-century Arabic literature. Her publications include translations of political texts and analyses of cultural revival movements.
Giordani teaches courses on the History of the Modern Middle East and coordinates an open-access online version of this class. She has contributed to Brill, Haymarket, and MLA publications, focusing on bridging non-Western intellectual traditions with global discourses.
