Angela Garner

Angela Garner is a Lecturer and Associate Director at the English Language Institute (ELI) within the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. With over 25 years of experience teaching English to speakers of additional languages in the U.S., South Korea, and China, she specializes in teacher training, curriculum development, cross-cultural communication, and academic writing.

Education:

• BA in English Literature from the University of Tennessee at Martin
• MA in English Literature from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
• MA in TESOL & Applied Linguistics from Indiana University, Bloomington

Angela teaches core ELI courses such as ELI 531: Language and Communication and ELI 533: Interactive Listening and Communication. She also coordinates the Summer English for Academic Purposes Program for incoming graduate students, emphasizing pedagogy, cultural adaptation, and language proficiency. Her current work focuses on supporting international scholars, faculty, and postdocs through specialized language resources and training programs.
