Angela Downes serves as Professor of Practice and Assistant Director of Experiential Education at the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law since the 2015-2016 academic year. A graduate of Mercer University and Texas A&M School of Law (formerly Texas Wesleyan School of Law), she is recognized as a subject matter expert on interpersonal violence issues.
Her research and professional focus centers on critical areas including child abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and elder abuse, with extensive policy development and legislative advocacy experience. She has provided specialized training and technical assistance to non-profit agencies on interpersonal violence prevention and victims' rights protection through her work with national organizations.
Professor Downes holds significant public appointments including service on the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (appointed by the governor in 2008 and reappointed in 2013) and the Texas Violent Gang Taskforce (2001-2004). She currently serves as an associate municipal judge for the City of Glenn Heights, Texas.
Her career spans roles with Collin and Dallas counties’ District Attorney’s offices, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) as Attorney for Court Programs, and the National District Attorneys Association as Senior Attorney. As Assistant Director of Experiential Education, she integrates her practical legal expertise into law student training while maintaining active judicial service.
