Dr Angela Baeza Peña is a Lecturer at the Carumba Institute at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), specializing in Indigenous education, rural education, and teacher professional development. She holds a PhD from QUT, a Master of Education (Monash University), and a Master in Learning Disabilities (PUC). Her research focuses on understanding teachers' and Indigenous community experiences in rural/remote Indigenous education contexts, particularly in Chile and Australia. She currently manages the International Journal of Critical Indigenous Studies (IJCIS) and has received significant awards including the ATEA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Teacher Education Award (2025) and Vice Chancellor’s Award for Indigenous Excellence (2025).
Her work emphasizes community partnerships, decolonizing research methodologies, and addressing systemic barriers in Indigenous education. Recent publications include analyses of Indigenous student retention in higher education, teacher preparation in Indigenous contexts, and policy frameworks for integrating Indigenous knowledges in classrooms. She has secured grants to advance Indigenous educational equity and serves as a key contributor to global Indigenous education discourse through conferences and editorial roles.
