Anette-Gabriele Ziegler

Prof. Dr. Anette-Gabriele Ziegler is a Professor and Chair of Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), leading the Institute for Diabetes Research at Helmholtz Zentrum München. Her research focuses on mechanisms of type 1 diabetes pathogenesis, predictive biomarkers, and prevention strategies, particularly for gestational diabetes risk stratification.

Education: Studied medicine at LMU Munich, completed a Doctorate there, and conducted research at the Joslin Diabetes Center (Boston).

Research interests include autoimmune diabetes prevention, virome analyses in at-risk children, and genetic risk modeling. She leads the international GPPAD platform and chairs the Immunology of Diabetes Society. Notable awards include the George Eisenbarth Award (2018) and Heisenberg Fellowship (1993).
