Andy Take is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen's University, affiliated with Smith Engineering. His research focuses on geotechnical engineering, image/video processing, and climate change adaptation. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has held roles including Vice Chair of ISSMGE TC104 (Physical Modelling).
Education: PhD (2003) in Geotechnical Engineering from Cambridge University; M.Sc.Eng (1998) and Bachelor's (1997) in Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
Research interests include landslide mechanics, tailings dam safety, railway resilience in permafrost regions, and geotechnical physical modeling. His lab develops methods like geoPIV software for deformation analysis and investigates pore pressure dynamics in landslides.
Awards include the R.M. Quigley Award (2011) and Early Researcher Award (Ontario). He leads Queen's GeoEngineering Centre and collaborates globally on initiatives like PermaRail and CanBreach projects.
Advances in tailings dam breach modeling and landslide-tsunami interaction are key areas of contribution, supported by NSERC, CFI, and industry partnerships.
