معرفی
Andy Smith is a part-time Lecturer in Theatre Practice at The University of Manchester’s Department of Drama. His work focuses on theatre as a medium for social and political engagement, blending performance with audience interaction. He holds a PhD from Lancaster University (2014) and an MA in Performance Writing from Dartington College of Arts (2003).
Smith’s research explores how theatre can provoke dialogue on critical issues like climate change, racism, and institutional inequities. His notable works include A CITIZENS’ ASSEMBLY (2024), addressing climate emergency through collective audience participation, and AN OAK TREE (2005), co-directed with Tim Crouch, which redefines theatrical conventions. He has also collaborated on TRUTHS’ A DOG MUST TO KENNEL (2023), winning a Fringe First Award.
His plays, such as SUMMIT (2018), integrate multilingual and BSL elements to emphasize accessibility and inclusivity. Smith’s projects often involve community partnerships, reflecting his commitment to applied theatre. Upcoming plans include expanding A CITIZENS’ ASSEMBLY to classrooms and broader UK tours.
