Dr. Andy Simionato is a Lecturer in the School of Design at RMIT University, specializing in computational art, design, and experimental publishing. Collaborating with Karen ann Donnachie since the 1990s, their work explores human and nonhuman collaborative systems, focusing on language, books, and technology. They are art editors for Art+australia, the longest-running art journal in Australia, and have won the Tokyo TDC Award three times and the Tokyo Type Directors Club Grand Prize (2024). Their research interests include human-nonhuman collaborative practices enabled by AI/ML, autonomous-art-systems, robotic drawing, and electronic literature.
Teaching areas include electronic literature, the future of the book, machinic drawing, and speculative design. Their artworks and designs are exhibited internationally, with notable collections at the German Museum of Books and Reading (Leipzig) and the National Library of Germany. Simionato is open to supervising Masters and PhD research in these areas.
