Dr. Andy Kuo is a Senior Research Fellow and Assistant Director at the Centre for Integrated Preclinical Drug Development (CIPDD) within the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Queensland. With over a decade of experience in preclinical translational research, he has managed 60+ industry and grant-funded studies under Australia's only electronic Quality Management System (eQMS) for preclinical drug development. His work bridges pharmacology, opioid research, and preclinical disease modeling across pain and infectious disease domains.
His research interests focus on:
- Preclinical evaluation of analgesics and antimicrobials
- Multi-receptor opioid ligand profiling
- Development of animal models for osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, and cancer-induced bone pain
- Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic relationships
- Reduction of opioid-related adverse effects
Dr. Kuo has published 32 journal articles and 2 book chapters since 2012, including groundbreaking work on:
- Cubane bioisosteres for drug discovery
- Comparative opioid receptor signaling
- Novel analgesic compounds like J-2156 and CYX-6
- Mechanistic studies of pain pathways
He has contributed to major grants from NHMRC and industry partners, and serves as associate advisor for 4 active PhD candidates in antibiotic resistance, chronic pain, and conotoxin-based therapeutics.
