Andy Felt

Professor Andy Felt is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), part of the College of Letters and Science. He joined UWSP in 2000 and has been actively involved in teaching, curriculum development, and research. He served as director of the Center for Athletic Scheduling and was awarded a Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission grant for teaching in Poland during the 2023 academic year.

Andy Felt's research focuses on stochastic programming, integer programming, athletic scheduling, and voting methods. His work applies mathematical optimization to real-world problems in education, logistics, and sports. He developed the course Mathematics for the Information Sciences and implemented the writing emphasis in Operations Research II, emphasizing practical applications in student learning.

His recent publications bridge mathematics with education and policy, showing a strong commitment to applied and accessible math. Themes across his work include optimization under uncertainty, equitable resource distribution, and interdisciplinary applications of operations research.

Professor Felt is actively engaged in academic service and outreach. He has advised curriculum development, directed research centers, and secured external funding such as the Fulbright grant. He has also contributed to K–12 outreach through the Central Wisconsin Math League, hosting high school competitions on campus. His professional memberships include the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the Mathematical Programming Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

He previously worked as a petroleum engineer and computer programmer before entering academia, bringing industry experience into his teaching. His courses include Calculus III, Data Structures and Algorithms, Intermediate Algebra, Mathematics for Information Sciences, Operations Research I, and Optimization Modeling.
