Andy Anderson is an Artist Faculty member in Music (Double Bass) at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA), affiliated with the Music Conservatory. He is an active performer and educator, holding bass faculty positions at CCPA and Wheaton Conservatory at Wheaton College. His performance career includes roles in over 130 annual concerts with ensembles like the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, Grant Park Orchestra, and Ravinia Festival Orchestra. He has held principal bass positions in four orchestras across seven states. Anderson also runs a thriving private studio, mentoring students from top institutions including Indiana University and New England Conservatory. He has been featured in a YouTube series on bass technique viewed globally over 322,200 times.
As an educator, he serves as a sectional coach at DePaul University, Chicago Youth Symphony, and Elgin Youth Symphony, and volunteers as director of a string ensemble at Westminster Christian School. Since 2008, he has been involved with the Elgin Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Institute. Anderson has been a clinician at the Chicago Bass Festival since 2010. His pedagogical approach emphasizes technique and performance, with syllabi and materials available at his studio website.
