Dr. Andrés Enrique Arias is a Professor of Spanish Language at the University of the Balearic Islands. He holds a BA in Spanish Philology from the University of Valladolid and a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, USA). Over his career, he has held academic positions at the University of Southern California and Colgate University, and served as a visiting lecturer at prestigious institutions including Harvard, Georgetown, Duke, Oxford, Leuven, and the Sorbonne.

His research focuses on diachronic corpus linguistics, particularly the historical morphosyntax of Spanish and the linguistic contact between Catalan and Spanish in Mallorca. He currently directs three major projects: the Historical Atlas of Spanish (online publication of variation maps), the Medieval Bible Project (first parallel corpus of medieval Spanish biblical texts), and the Corpus Mallorca (documents by Catalan-Spanish bilinguals from the 18th-19th centuries).
A prolific scholar, he has authored approximately 100 publications in journals such as Studies in Language, Language Variation and Change, and Romance Philology. As principal investigator for the CAVA (Corpus Approaches to Linguistic Variation) research group, he leads groundbreaking work in historical linguistics and corpus methodology.
