معرفی
Andréa Becker is an Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department at Hunter College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY). Her research focuses on contested medical practices, particularly examining how inequality shapes reproductive experiences—from contraception and abortion to gender-affirming care. She is the author of the forthcoming book Unchoosable: Hysterectomy, Gender, and Stratified Reproduction (NYU Press, 2025), which combines 100 qualitative interviews to explore hysterectomy through a trans-inclusive lens.
Dr. Becker earned a BA in Sociology and Gender Studies from Wake Forest University, an MA in Sociology from Vanderbilt University, and a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center, where she was a National Science Foundation GRFP fellow. Her work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the ASA Roberta G. Simmons Dissertation Award and the Society of Family Planning Emerging Scholars grant.
Her research has been published in leading journals such as Gender & Society, Social Science & Medicine, and Contraception. She also contributes to mainstream media outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post, bridging academic and public discourse on reproductive health.
Key research themes include reproductive justice, trans-inclusive healthcare, and the intersection of digital media with abortion advocacy. Her postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF’s ANSIRH (Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health) further solidified her expertise in interdisciplinary reproductive health research.
