Andrey Sorokin, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and Medicine (Nephrology) at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of kidney diseases, particularly signaling pathways involved in glomerular pathologies and BK virus infection. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the Institute of Cytology (Russia) and has over 40 years of research experience.
- Education: MS (1977) and PhD (1981) from St. Petersburg institutions, followed by postdoctoral training at the Institute of Cytology.
Research interests include ET-1 signaling in renal mesangium, COX-2 regulation in renal pathologies, and BK virus entry mechanisms. His lab uses genetically modified rats to study p66Shc-mediated signaling in kidney diseases. Recent work explores protein-protein interactions involving COX-2 and Fyn kinase.
Publications span nephrology, cell signaling, and oncology, with a focus on renal pathobiology and molecular mechanisms of disease progression. Collaborative studies involve developing therapeutic strategies for glomerulosclerosis and BKV-associated nephropathy.
