Andrey A. Shabalin is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2010), an M.A. in Economics from the New Economic School in Moscow (2004), and an M.S. in Mathematics from Moscow State University (2002).
His research focuses on high-dimensional data analysis, genomics, genetics, eQTL studies, and methylation. Key areas include polygenic risk scoring, psychiatric genetics, and computational methods for analyzing large-scale genomic data.
Recent work emphasizes genetic studies of suicide, mental health disorders, and epigenetic mechanisms. He has developed influential software tools such as Matrix eQTL, RaMWAS, and LAS biclustering, which are widely used in genomic research.
Dr. Shabalin has held academic positions at Virginia Commonwealth University (2014–2017) and has extensive postdoctoral experience in computational genetics and biostatistics. His contributions span over 100 peer-reviewed publications, with a focus on statistical methods and applications in mental health and genomic medicine.
