Andrew Wister is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Gerontology Research Centre (GRC) at Simon Fraser University (SFU), where he has served as faculty for 33 years. His research focuses on healthy aging, resilience, social isolation, and pandemic impacts, with over 160 peer-reviewed publications. He chairs major grants including the Canadian Longitudinal Study of Aging (CLSA), leading $52M and $24.5M projects. Wister pioneered SFU’s MA/PhD Gerontology programs and advised over 85 students. Awards include the Canadian Association on Gerontology’s Distinguished Member Award (2014) and SFU’s University Professorship (2015-2020). His work integrates quantitative and qualitative methods, emphasizing policy and community-based interventions.
