Andrew Wiley is an Assistant Professor of History and Editor of The Papers of Martin Van Buren at Cumberland University. He joined the institution in January 2018 and is affiliated with the Presidential Papers department within the Millard and JJ Oakley School of Humanities, Education and the Arts. His research focuses on Civil War Era politics, military history, Cold War history, and the history of baseball. Dr. Wiley teaches introductory U.S. history courses and has contributed to academic journals like Civil War History and the Tennessee Historical Quarterly as a guest editor.
Education: B.A., Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis; M.A., Indiana State University; Ph.D., University of Calgary (Canada).
Previous roles include editorial assistant at the Frederick Douglass Papers and Civil War History journal. He is currently revising a manuscript titled *White Man’s Liberalism: American Conservatism, Race, Economics, and the Origins of Movement Conservatism in Nineteenth-Century Indiana*, collaborating with a university press for publication.
Hobbies include playing six musical instruments, attending baseball games, and exploring historical sites across Tennessee and neighboring states.
