Dr. Andrew Walkty is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He holds cross appointments in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, susceptibility testing, and clinical microbiology. He currently serves as the Program Director for the Medical Microbiology Residency Training Program at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Walkty practices as a medical microbiologist with Shared Health at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, and contributes to clinical infectious disease services.

Research interests emphasize translational microbiology, with contributions to the Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance (CARA). Awards include repeated recognition for clinical education in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (2010, 2014, 2018). Though not currently accepting graduate students, he mentors residents through his program director role. Professional activities include leadership in antimicrobial stewardship and resistance surveillance initiatives.
