Dr. Andrew Tanentzap is a Professor and Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Climate Change and Northern Ecosystems at Trent University, with a research group affiliated with the University of Cambridge's Department of Plant Sciences and Zoology. His interdisciplinary work bridges ecology, environmental science, and climate change impacts on northern regions.
Research focuses on:
- Species adaptation to global environmental change
- Consequences for land/water ecosystem health
- Aquatic food web dynamics
- Carbon cycling in boreal and Arctic systems
- Biodiversity patterns across spatial-temporal scales
- Effectiveness of landscape restoration initiatives
Major recognition includes:
- Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (2021-present)
He leads an active research team with 4 postdoctoral fellows and 4 graduate students at Trent, plus additional members at Cambridge. Lab capabilities include:
- Molecular analysis (DNA sequencing, organic matter characterization)
- Ecosystem function measurements (gas fluxes, productivity)
- High-performance computing resources
Research informs climate adaptation policies supporting northern Indigenous communities through collaborations with government agencies and international institutions.
