Dr. Andrew Stiff is a Senior Lecturer in Design Studies at RMIT University Vietnam's School of Communication & Design, affiliated with the Saigon South Campus. He holds a practice-based PhD from RMIT's School of Graduate Research: Architecture and Design, focusing on 'Moving Experiences: Video Observations of Ho Chi Minh City.' His academic roles include Research Coordinator, HDR DA, and Co-chair of the Practice Research Symposium Asia (2024-2027).
Research interests center on experimental filmmaking exploring urban spaces' sensory experiences, cultural impacts on dense urban development, and sustainable urban futures. He has led collaborative projects like the Common Design Studio (with RMIT Melbourne, LCC UAL, ELISAVA Barcelona) and contributed to initiatives such as Memefest on food-space production and PlaceLab urban mapping workshops.
Teaching roles include coordinating Capstone 1 for 3rd-year students and supervising PhD candidates. He has examined doctoral theses at the University of Sunderland (UK) and Multimedia University Malaysia. Leadership roles include Deputy Dean at RMIT Linton College Malaysia (2011–2016) and PG Coordinator at UAL's MA Digital Arts (2003–2010).
His creative practice spans experimental digital film, augmented reality projects, and urban documentation. Key projects include 'Hem Realities' (2024), 'Smart and Creative Cities in Vietnam' (2024), and 'The Tight Hems' (2024), addressing urban sustainability and cultural heritage.
