Associate Professor Catherine Earl is a social anthropologist and policy analyst at RMIT Vietnam, affiliated with the School of Communication & Design. She holds a position as Associate Professor in the Department of Communication, leading research on Vietnam’s middle classes, urbanization, gender equity, and sustainable development. Her work spans ethnographic studies on Ho Chi Minh City since 2000, focusing on mobilities, public space, and socio-economic transformations.
Academic roles include Associate Professor (2025–present), Senior Lecturer (2023–2024), and Lecturer (2019–2022). Her research emphasizes ageing, welfare policies, and creativity in higher education across ASEAN. Current projects include fostering women entrepreneurs and exploring affective leadership through 'tình mẫu tử' (motherly love) in Vietnamese leadership.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 17 (Partnerships). She supervises Masters and PhD students and collaborates on action research for social transformation in Ho Chi Minh City.
