Andrew Stewart

Andrew Stewart is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Business & Law and the School of Organisations, Systems and People. He holds a Doctorate in Education (EdD) and was awarded an OBE in 2011 for leadership and HRM contributions during his Royal Navy service.

His educational background includes a Doctorate in Education, completed as part of the EdD programme, with a thesis focusing on leadership education in higher education.

Andrew's research centers on leadership, management, and leadership development, with a strong emphasis on talent identification, change management, and organizational learning. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education. He has explored the role of education as a change agent in project contexts and the use of relational coaching to enhance leadership effectiveness.

His recent publications reflect a consistent focus on leadership education, coaching, and the human factors in organizational success. The 2024 book chapter highlights innovative approaches to leadership learning, while the 2018 article investigates how educational frameworks can prevent project failure.

He has been recognized with the OBE for his contributions to leadership and HRM. His academic and professional achievements demonstrate sustained excellence in both practice and theory.

Andrew has supervised doctoral research, including the thesis of A.C. Stewart on leadership education. He is actively engaged in academic service, including presenting at international conferences such as the UFHRD International Conference and the 11th DLCC, and organizing workshops on practical leadership training. He also served as the University of Portsmouth’s representative on the Military Education Committee since 2013.

He is involved in interdisciplinary research and leadership development initiatives, contributing to academic discourse through publications, presentations, and collaborative projects focused on improving leadership practices in educational and organizational settings.
