Andrew S. Medeiros is a Professor at Dalhousie University, specializing in environmental science with a focus on freshwater ecosystems and Arctic research. His work bridges community-based methodologies, paleolimnology, and climate change adaptation. He leads the ImiqWater research group and actively engages in interdisciplinary projects addressing water security, sustainability, and Indigenous knowledge integration in northern communities.
Research interests include the impact of environmental stressors on aquatic systems, climate change vulnerability assessments, and the application of innovative techniques like machine learning for ecological monitoring. Medeiros collaborates with municipalities, Indigenous groups, and international partners to develop actionable strategies for freshwater management in the Arctic.
Recent publications highlight advancements in chironomid-based paleotemperature reconstructions, Arctic freshwater vulnerability frameworks, and community-driven adaptation strategies. His work emphasizes bridging scientific research with policy and practice, particularly in remote regions facing rapid environmental and socio-economic changes.
Advising includes mentoring students in Mes programs focusing on water resource management and environmental policy. Medeiros is also engaged in developing tools for hydrological monitoring and low-carbon infrastructure in Arctic regions.
