Dr Andrew Povey is a Reader in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on environmental and occupational health, particularly the impact of exposures like air pollution, pesticides, and DNA-damaging agents on chronic disease. He leads or co-leads major projects including HEALS (EU-funded environment-wide health associations study) and IMPRESS (pesticide exposure methodologies). He has supervised over 40 PhD students and obtained ~£3.25M in grants from CR-UK, MRC, and others. Povey holds leadership roles as Designated Individual for Human Tissue Research Licence and sits on the Committee on Mutagenicity of Chemicals. He teaches across MBChB and postgraduate programs, including supervision of medical and public health students.
Education: BSc Chemistry (Bristol, 1978), MSc Clinical Biochemistry (Surrey, 1982), PhD Pharmacy (London, 1985), MSc Epidemiology (Edinburgh, 1997). Collaborates with institutions globally on projects like European Exposure Health Examination Surveys (EXHES) and occupational pesticide assessment. His work aligns with UN SDGs on health and environmental sustainability.
