Professor Andrew Plummer serves as Professor of Machine Systems within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. He is recognized as a world authority on the control of high-performance servo-hydraulic machines and motion control systems.
His research expertise spans fluid power systems, actuation technology, and motion control, with applications in aerospace engineering, medical devices, and energy-efficient machinery. Notable contributions include the development of innovative control methods for crash-testing catapults, earthquake simulation tables, flight simulator motion systems, and high-speed materials testing machines, achieving new performance benchmarks in these fields.
Professor Plummer leads the fluid power and control research group at the University of Bath and has directed both national and international engineering networks. He is also committed to advancing mechanical engineering education through his academic and leadership roles.
