Andrew Perkins is a Professor at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases, part of the School of Translational Medicine, Monash University. He is also the Head of Genomic Medicine at Alfred Health and Professor of Haematology at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, where he integrates clinical practice with cutting-edge research in blood diseases.
His research centers on transcriptional control networks in blood stem cells and blood cancers, with a focus on JAK-STAT signaling, erythropoiesis, and genomic mechanisms of inherited blood disorders. He leads projects in gene editing and personalized medicine for blood cancers. His work bridges basic science and clinical application, aiming to develop cures for both inherited and acquired blood diseases.
His recent publications highlight his work in γ-globin gene regulation, diagnostic variability in myeloproliferative neoplasms, congenital fibrinogen disorders, and genotype-phenotype correlations. These reflect a consistent focus on genomic medicine, transcriptional regulation, and precision diagnostics.
