Dr. Andrew Ortega is the Director of Athletic Bands and Instructor of Trombone and Euphonium at Southern Arkansas University. He teaches the Mulerider Marching Band, Pep Band, Concert Band, and courses including Marching Band Techniques, Orchestration and Arranging, Trombone Choir, Tuba/Euphonium Choir, and applied lessons. His educational background includes a B.Ed. in Music Education from Clarion University of PA, an M.A. in Music Performance (Trombone) from Indiana University of PA, and a D.M.A. in Trombone from West Virginia University.
Research Focus
Dr. Ortega's expertise spans music education pedagogy, marching band leadership, and brass performance. His work emphasizes practical applications in ensemble direction, instrumental instruction (trombone/euphonium), and musical arrangement. Professional collaborations include performances with the Grey Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and Black Diamond Philharmonic.
