Andrew Ng is a member of the MPP Teaching Faculty at McGill University's Max Bell School of Public Policy. He is also a career foreign service officer with Global Affairs Canada, currently serving as political counsellor at the Canadian Embassy to Peru and Bolivia.
Professor Ng's academic and professional background includes:
- BA in Government from Cornell University (graduated summa cum laude)
- Deputy director for Canadian foreign policy with India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan (2019-2021)
- Political counselor for Canada's bilateral relationship with Mali and the UN stabilization mission (2017-2019)
- Various political and public affairs postings to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, the United States and Mali
- Junior fellow in the Democracy and Rule of Law Project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
Professor Ng's research and teaching interests focus on international relations and diplomatic practice, with particular expertise in Canadian foreign policy, peacekeeping operations, and multilateral diplomacy. His work bridges academic theory with practical diplomatic experience, drawing from his extensive service in various global regions. He teaches a specialized course titled 'Policy Case Study: From Canada to Timbuktu: Peacekeeping in the quicksand of Mali' that reflects his firsthand experience in international conflict resolution.
Professor Ng is fluent in three languages: English, French, and Spanish, which has been instrumental in his diplomatic career across multiple continents.
