Andrew Moynihan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Limerick. His work focuses on social, existential, hedonic, and personality psychology, examining how individuals engage in hedonic and interpersonal behaviors to cope with threats to meaning in life. He also explores gender identities and public perception of geosciences. Moynihan holds a BA from University College Cork, an MSc from the University of Limerick, and a PhD under Prof. Eric Igou and Dr. Wijnand van Tilburg. He has held roles including a post-doctoral fellowship at iCRAG and a lecturing position at UL since 2018.
Research interests include the psychological underpinnings of boredom, free will perceptions, gender equality, and health literacy interventions in marginalized communities. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to gender equality and public health.
Moynihan has been recognized with awards such as the James M. Flaherty Research Scholarship (2018) and Faculty Seed Funding (2022). His research spans collaborations in over 60 countries, investigating cross-cultural dynamics in gender self-views and collective action toward equality.
