Dr Niamh Armstrong is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics & Computer Studies within the Faculty of Arts at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Limerick, Ireland. She holds a PhD in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning from Lancaster University, with extensive academic qualifications in mathematics, computer science, and education.
Her educational background includes a BA in Mathematics and Economics, Higher Diploma in Education, and Higher Diploma in Software Design & Development from the National University of Ireland, Galway, as well as a Master's in E-Learning Design and Development from the University of Limerick. Her research focuses on the intersection of technology and education, particularly how digital tools can enhance learning experiences.
Dr Armstrong's PhD dissertation investigated digital agility through the use of chatbots to scaffold learning opportunities for students, demonstrating her commitment to innovative educational approaches. Her work contributes to MIC's research profile in educational technology and digital learning environments, aligning with the college's strategic focus on research that enhances teaching and learning experiences.
As a member of MIC's academic staff, she participates in the college's vibrant research community supported by the Research & Graduate School on the John Henry Newman Campus, which provides specialist research supports and professional development for faculty and postgraduate researchers.
