Andrew McKenzie is a Research Professor at the University of Cambridge, leading the Molecular Immunity Unit within the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. His work focuses on the regulation of the immune system, particularly the role of group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) in immune disorders such as asthma, allergy, and cancer.
- Discovery of ILC2s as key regulators in immune responses
- Investigation of transcriptional pathways governing ILC differentiation
- Study of mucosal surface immunology and therapeutic targeting
Using mouse genetics, fluorescence imaging, and gene expression analysis, his research bridges innate and adaptive immunity, aiming to translate findings into human therapies. Current group members include Pratiksha Bhat, Paula Clark, and Aydan Szeto.
Recent publications explore topics such as ILC2-derived LIF, Mef2d in allergic inflammation, and integrin checkpoints in TH2 polarization. His work also investigates stromal cell niches and chromatin remodeling in immune cell development.
