Andrew M. Johnston is a Visiting Professor at Carleton University and affiliated with the John F. Kennedy Institute at Freie Universität Berlin. He holds a B.A. from Toronto, M.A. from Yale, and M.Phil./Ph.D. from Cambridge. His research focuses on the intersection of transnational history, human rights, gender, and liberal internationalism, particularly in the North Atlantic world during the early 20th century.

Johnston's work examines crises in industrial-imperial societies, the evolution of international norms post-WWI, and the transnational legacy of feminist peace movements like the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. He has supervised numerous graduate students on topics ranging from civil rights to media and nationalism.
His recent articles explore human security, liberal capitalism, and the gendered dimensions of international theory. He has received awards for teaching excellence and research contributions, including SSHRC grants and Visiting Professorships in Germany.
