Andrew Lawrence is a Senior Lecturer and Filmmaker-in-Residence at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, University of Manchester. He also holds visiting professorships at Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Bern. His work focuses on ethnographic filmmaking as a research tool, exploring themes like childbirth, death, identity, and adventure across the UK, India, and Peru. Current projects include the film Horror In The Andes and the book Filmmaking For Fieldwork: An Ethnographer's Handbook. Lawrence's research spans audio-visual methods, documentary practice, and interdisciplinary applications in fields like sociology, environmental humanities, and education.
His research interests emphasize visual anthropology and innovative documentary techniques, contributing to understanding the human condition through film. He organizes the annual F4F™ Summer School at The Futureworks School of Media. Notable recognition includes the AHRC award for Black Snow (2018).
