Andrew Kosenko is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics and Finance within the School of Management at Marist University. He maintains academic connections with Columbia University where he occasionally teaches and conducts research. His scholarly work bridges theoretical microeconomics with real-world policy applications, particularly in information economics and behavioral decision-making.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Economics, Columbia University (2018)
- MPhil in Economics, Columbia University (2015)
- MA in Economics, Columbia University (2014)
- BA in Economics, New York University (2008)
- BA in European Studies, New York University (2008)
Professor Kosenko's research focuses on microeconomic theory, particularly information economics (strategic communication and information design), and cognitive mechanisms of economic behavior. His work extends to experimental economics, the neuroscience of learning and memory, economics of philanthropy, and the economic consequences of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. His recent publications demonstrate a sophisticated integration of game theory with behavioral insights, examining how imperfect information processing affects strategic interactions. His work on Ukraine's economic challenges, including co-authoring policy briefs with Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz, shows his commitment to applying economic theory to pressing global issues.
His scholarly output reveals a consistent trajectory from theoretical foundations in information economics toward increasingly policy-relevant applications, particularly regarding the Ukraine conflict. His 2024-2025 publications demonstrate this evolution, with theoretical papers on information design alongside practical policy proposals for asset seizure and analysis of Russia's economic warfare.
Professor Kosenko actively contributes to public discourse through outlets like Project Syndicate, VoxUkraine, and Foreign Affairs, with his January 2024 piece on Russian asset seizure republished in The Guardian, El Pais, and other major international media. He is a member of the "Economists for Ukraine" collective and has been profiled by Marist Circle, the student newspaper at Marist University.
His teaching responsibilities include Intermediate Microeconomics (ECON 303L) and Game Theory (ECON 403L). Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he brings personal perspective to his work on Ukraine's economic challenges.
