The University of Manchesterمعرفی
Andrew Koontz-Garboden is Professor of Linguistics and Head of the Department of Linguistics and English Language at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on the morphosyntax-semantics interface and implications of crosslinguistic variation, with fieldwork expertise in Ulwa (Nicaragua), Basaá (Cameroon), Huave (Mexico), and Tongan languages.
His theoretical work examines lexical semantics, verbal meaning, property concepts, and change-of-state predicates. Recent publications investigate possession categorization, verbal root semantics, and crosslinguistic patterns in state/change expressions. He employs documentary methods and formal analysis to understand linguistic diversity.
Current projects include lexical category semantics and multifunctionality in grammar. His research has been funded by grants examining ownership-wage relationships using linked employer-employee datasets.
He leads doctoral projects on topics including verb lability, possession semantics, and categorization across languages. His collaborations include international research teams at IAB Nürnberg and partner universities.
