Andrew Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Geography and Undergraduate Course Leader at Sheffield Hallam University, specializing in GIS, remote sensing, and glaciology. He has been with the university since 2008, serving as MSc GIS Course Leader (2010–2014) and BSc Geography Course Leader since 2014. His academic credentials include a BSc (Hons), PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Research interests focus on glacial dynamics, subglacial hydrology, cryospheric remote sensing, peatland hydrology, and GIS applications. Current projects include Greenland outlet glacier velocity analysis, 3D eskers in Finland, and Martian esker studies. Teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate modules such as Advanced GIS, Remote Sensing, and glaciology courses.
Pre-university roles included GIS consultancy, work with the Peak District National Park Authority, and the Moors for the Future conservation project. Notable contributions include developing the British Mountaineering Council's Coastal Access Database (2007) and a moorland footpath digitization tool (2004).
