معرفی
Dr. Andrew J. Zele is a Professor of Optometry and Vision Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), holding an ARC Future Fellowship. He leads research in the Melanopsin Photoreception and Visual Science Laboratories at the QUT Centre for Vision and Eye Research. His work focuses on retinal mechanisms controlling visual function, including melanopsin's role in vision and circadian regulation, mesopic lighting effects, and human-centric lighting design.
He completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne and held postdoctoral positions there and at the University of Chicago's Department of Ophthalmology. His research integrates optical instrumentation development with clinical investigations of aging eyes and neuroretinal diseases.
Key interests include: melanopsin-mediated vision pathways, ipRGC biology, rod-cone interactions, pupillary control, and light's impact on human behavior. He has pioneered frameworks like Photoreceptor Enhanced Light Therapy (PELT) for optimizing lighting in healthcare settings.
Recent studies explore light therapy efficacy in Parkinson's disease and type 2 diabetes, linking circadian rhythms to clinical outcomes. Awards include two ARC Fellowships (APD & Future). His supervision focuses on light's role in neurodegenerative conditions and circadian behavior.
