Andrew Irving is a Lecturer in Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Northampton and a Senior Biomedical Lecturer at the University of Buckingham. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Dublin (UCD), Dundee University, and the University of Bristol as a PhD candidate.
- Current Affiliations: University of Northampton (School of Life and Environmental Science), University of Buckingham
- Education: PhD in Neuropharmacology and Bachelor in Pharmacology, both from the University of Bristol (awarded 1992 and 1988, respectively)
His research focuses on neuropharmacology and molecular imaging of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), particularly orphan GPCRs like GPR55 and their roles in cognitive function modulation. Key areas include cannabinoid receptor pharmacology, neuroprotection, synaptic plasticity in hippocampal circuits, and interactions between lipid and peptide ligands with GPCRs.
Andrew collaborates with institutions such as the University of Sydney, University of Copenhagen, and pharmaceutical companies like Takeda, GSK, and Cerevance. Current projects involve investigating cannabinoid effects on hippocampal function and characterizing novel GPR55 modulators.
