Andrew Hoey is a Research Professorial Fellow at James Cook University and a core member of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. His research focuses on coral reef ecosystem dynamics, particularly the role of herbivorous fishes in reef resilience and the impacts of environmental changes such as climate change and habitat degradation. He has conducted fieldwork across 20+ Pacific and Indian Ocean locations.
Hoey has held prestigious fellowships including the ARC DECRA (2013-2015), Isobel Bennett Research Fellowship (2013), and Churchill Fellowship (2011). His work spans functional biology of reef fishes, algal-coral interactions, and the effects of rising water temperatures on fish physiology.
