Andrew Higginbotham

Andrew Higginbotham is a Senior Lecturer in Physics at the University of York, affiliated with the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology and the Plasma Physics and Fusion Group. His research focuses on high energy density physics, laser-generated dynamic compression of materials, and non-equilibrium systems.

• Educated with an M.Phys and D.Phil from the University of Oxford
• Previously held positions at the University of Oxford (2013-2014 Departmental Lecturer; 2009-2013 Postdoctoral Researcher)

His recent publications highlight expertise in femtosecond x-ray diffraction, laser diagnostics at extreme facilities like European XFEL, and molecular dynamics simulations. He supervises Fusion CDT students and teaches undergraduate courses in Solid State Physics and Atomic Physics.

External activities include chairing the Technical Advisory Committee for the Helmholtz International Beamline for Extreme Fields (HIBEF) and EPSRC-funded projects on inertial fusion energy optimization.
