Professor Christopher Ridgers is a leading academic in plasma physics at the University of York's School of Physics, Engineering and Technology. He specializes in kinetic theory of laser-produced plasmas, inertial confinement fusion (ICF), and quantum electrodynamic (QED) plasmas. His research focuses on non-classical transport effects, reduced non-local models for radiation hydrodynamics codes, and relativistic electron beam propagation. He leads the MSc in Fusion Energy program and has held postdoctoral positions at institutions like Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Imperial College London.
Education: MSci (Cambridge), PhD (Imperial College London). Research interests include ICF plasma simulations, QED-plasma phenomena, and laser-driven gamma-ray generation. He collaborates on projects funded by EPSRC, including studies on plasma edge simulations and high-energy-density physics. Teaching includes undergraduate electromagnetism and postgraduate plasma physics courses.
Publications span over 90 articles, with recent work on surrogate models for laser-plasma interactions and gamma-flash emission mechanisms. His labs, including the York Plasma Institute, support experimental and computational studies in extreme plasma conditions.
