Andrew Goryachev is a Professor of Computational Cell Biology and Principal Investigator at the University of Edinburgh's School of Biological Sciences. He leads the Goryachev Group, focusing on computational modeling of cellular morphogenesis, pattern formation, and Rho GTPase dynamics. His work integrates mathematical biology with experimental systems, particularly in understanding how cells regulate structures like protrusions, adhesions, and division furrows.
Education: PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada. Current roles include membership in the Centre for Engineering Biology and the Institute of Cell Biology. He holds a prestigious BBSRC-NSF grant for synthetic biology research on cytoskeletal pattern formation in frog oocytes, collaborating with Prof. W. Bement (University of Wisconsin-Madison).
Research Interests: Computational modeling of cell polarity, cortical excitability, and synthetic biology applications. His lab uses interdisciplinary approaches to study self-organization in biological systems, with a focus on Rho GTPase signaling and actomyosin dynamics.
