Andrew Filmer is Senior Lecturer in Theatre and Performance in the Department of Theatre, Film, and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University, UK. His research examines the sites of encounter between performance and architecture and performative explorations of endurance running. He joined Aberystwyth in February 2008 after teaching at several Australian universities including the University of Sydney.
Dr. Filmer holds a BA Hons Class 1 and PhD from Sydney, plus PGCTHE from Cymru, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research interests span theatre architecture, site-specific performance, running cultures, and post-pandemic theatre futures, with particular focus on spatial relationships in performance contexts.

He maintains active collaborations with National Theatre Wales and the TAAT collective ('Theatre as Architecture Architecture as Theatre').
As a public intellectual, he frequently contributes to media discussions on theatre architecture and post-pandemic performance, with numerous press appearances from 2019-2025.
