Andrew F. Emerson

Andrew F. Emerson is a Lecturer at Western Carolina University's College of Business, where he teaches legal courses in the Department of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, and Business Law. Prior to his academic career, he practiced as a business litigation lawyer in Dallas, Texas, for 25 years, representing major corporations, banks, and the FDIC in state and federal courts, including the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

• Education: JD from the University of Georgia (with honors, 1981), BA in History from Bryan College (summa cum laude).

His research interests focus on creditors' rights in bankruptcy and legal implications of Title IX lawsuits in higher education, including due process challenges and the 2020 Title IX Final Rule. His publications have appeared in leading journals such as the American Bankruptcy Law Journal and American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review.

Mr. Emerson is an AV-rated attorney, a member of the Texas State Bar, and qualified to practice in multiple federal district courts and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. His teaching portfolio includes courses on legal environment, contracts, administrative law, health law, business ethics, and employment/labor law.
