Assoc. Prof. Andrew Ellisdon is an Associate Professor (Research) at Monash University’s Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI), leading the Structural Biology of Signalling and Cancer Laboratory. He holds a VCA Mid-Career Fellowship and focuses on structural biology, particularly elucidating molecular mechanisms of oncogenes and tumor suppressors using cryo-electron microscopy, crystallography, and biochemistry. His work aims to advance drug development for cancers, including neurofibromatosis-linked tumors. Ellisdon leads a team of postdocs, research assistants, and PhD students, and has secured significant grants, including NHMRC equipment funding.
Research interests include metastatic signaling pathways, protein complexes in cancer, and therapeutic target discovery. Recent projects involve structural analysis of neurofibromin and P-Rex1, and developing IL-37-based anti-inflammatory therapeutics. Ellisdon has been recognized with the 2018 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Research Enterprise. His collaborations span structural biology, drug discovery, and translational medicine, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
