Andrew Dillin is a Professor of Immunology and Molecular Medicine and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Distinguished Chair in Stem Cell Biology. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of aging, proteostasis, and mitochondrial dysfunction, with a particular emphasis on how cellular stress responses and inter-organ communication influence health span and longevity.
Key projects in his lab include studying mitochondrial and ER stress signaling, the role of HSF-1 in cytoplasmic stress responses, and how nutrient availability and germline signaling impact aging. His work integrates model organisms (C. elegans, mice, stem cells) with advanced techniques like ribosome profiling and CRISPR screens to dissect aging pathways.
Notable achievements include discoveries regarding cell non-autonomous mitochondrial stress signaling, the role of PHA-4 in dietary restriction, and the development of mouse models for HSF-1 activation. His lab has pioneered methodologies to analyze translational regulation and organelle communication.
